Ewa Pobłocka – piano
Laureate of the 10th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw (1980), awarded the Polish Radio prize for the best performance of mazurkas; she also won accolades at international piano competitions in Vercelli (1977) and Bordeaux (1979).
She has performed in nearly all European countries, as well as in both Americas, China, Indonesia, Vietnam, South Africa, Singapore, Korea, Japan, and Australia. As a soloist, she has appeared with the London Symphony Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Bayerischer Rundfunkorchester, Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich, New Japan Philharmonic, Polish Chamber Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra, National Philharmonic Orchestra, and the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice.
The artist has premiered and made first recordings of numerous works by contemporary Polish composers, including Andrzej Panufnik, Witold Lutosławski, Paweł Szymański, and Paweł Mykietyn (the latter two composers dedicated their concertos to her). Ewa Pobłocka’s critically acclaimed discography includes over 50 albums covering solo, chamber, and concerto repertoire from Baroque to contemporary, recorded on modern and historical instruments from Chopin’s era. These were recorded for Deutsche Grammophon, Pony Canyon, Victor JVC, Conifer Records, Polskie Nagrania “Muza”, NIFC, CD Accord, and BeArTon. She was the first among Polish pianists to record both volumes of Bach’s Das Wohltemperierte Klavier (NIFC 2018, 2023). The album with the first volume was listed among the 50 best Bach recordings in history by the prestigious magazine “Gramophone” and was also awarded as the magazine’s album of the month.
Ewa Pobłocka is an avid performer of chamber music and a highly regarded educator. She teaches a piano class at the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz. She has conducted masterclasses in dozens of countries and frequently serves on the jury of international piano competitions, including in Hamamatsu, Tel Aviv, Ettlingen, Calgary, and Warsaw. In 2021, she served on the jury of the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw for the third time.
The artist also enjoys writing, having published essays in literary journals such as Zeszyty Literackie, Kwartalnik Artystyczny Wyspa, and Kwartalnik Literacki Bliza. In August 2021, her first book, Forte-piano, was published by Słowo/obraz terytoria. She also hosted radio programs on Bach’s music for Polish Radio Channel 2: Zacznij od Bacha (2020-2021) and Przypadki Bacha (2021).
